Jamie McKenzie Workshop : "Puzzling and
weaving toward insight with new technologies" |

| Report by Sue Cameron (Teacher Librarian at All
Saints’ College) |

| On Tuesday 20th June, a group of enthusiastic Teachers and Teacher Librarians met at Christ Church Grammar School Senior campus, to further their knowledge with well know presenter Jamie McKenzie. Jamie, from the UK, is the well known author of many books and has a very informative website with his magazine ‘From Now On’. It is well worth a visit. |

This Secondary School workshop was so well supported that a change to the layout of the room was needed to ensure everyone had access to the screens, during the instructional segment of the day. It was very much a ‘hands on’ workshop with the Teacher Librarian working on a computer, with a Teacher from the same school, as Jamie took them through ways of using metaphors to illustrate the mental process needed by students to manage challenging questions. The metaphors he used were puzzling, beading and weaving. |

The sites to which Jamie directed the participants, allowed them to explore strategies for use with students, which should strengthen their questioning and creating ability. A very informative and fun packed exercise, Jamie has made it available through his website.
The feedback we received from participants was very positive with many commenting on just how beneficial and unique it was, to be given the opportunity to work collaboratively with another staff member from their school. Many indicated that they would be continuing this partnership in developing a programme to be used with their students. A very successful day and I would like to sincerely thank Christ Church Grammar for making their room and resources available to us, especially their IT specialists who were on hand to ‘iron out’ any technical problems throughout the day.
