| The primary aim of the Association of Independent Schools
of Western Australia’s (AISWA)
planned virtual private network, aiswalearningnet,
is to enable teachers, students and their parents access to their
school’s on-line learning environment from anywhere (even within
the school), and at any time. Hence the sub-text to the name aiswalearningnet
– "educational access on demand".
One imperative for developing aiswalearningnet is to provide schools
with access to
The Le@rning Federation learning objects and the
BELTS Server, which would not otherwise be available.
Basically, aiswalearningnet will provide a range of applications
and managed services, along with some infrastructure to enable schools
to connect to the data centre. Ultimately, schools will be able
to determine the applications and services they will use and take
advantage of cost savings.
aiswalearningnet will be modular in design (grouped by the type
of application or service). This will allow schools the choice of
modules which relate to their needs and interests or to have choice
within the modules themselves.
It is envisaged that aiswalearningnet will “self-market”
as schools make increased and successful use of the services and
applications. This will inform other schools of the known and perceived
benefits of joining.
