Nominating Candidates for the Jean Rhodes Memorial Award
 
 
 
About the Award - Selection Criteria
 

The Jean Rhodes Memorial Award for Excellence is presented to persons who, in the estimation of their peers, have demonstrated that they meet the professional standards of their particular role within a school library or resource centre.

The person selected will have:

  • Improved the services of the library
  • Provided students with an environment which is conducive to learning and information literacy
  • Improved communication within the school community
  • Provided support to professional colleagues
  • Highlighted an image of the best professional service which should be received in all libraries
 
 
Nomination/Selection Procedures and Guidelines
 
  1. Only employees of independent schools which are financial members of AISWA Libraries Inc. at the time of nomination are eligible.
  2. Information about the award will be posted on watlnet during Term 2.
  3. Interested parties will be invited to propose a person for nomination by emailing a member of the AISWA Libraries Inc. Committee.
  4. The Committee member contacted by the nominator will request a brief synopsis of the nominee’s achievements to present to the full AISWA Libraries Inc. committee.
  5. Preliminary selection of no more than 3 nominees will be made by the full AISWA Libraries Inc. Committee.
  6. The schools and nominees will then be invited to submit evidence to support the nominations. The following persons will be contacted:
    i) The Principal, who will be provided (by President) with a checklist for each of the selection criteria and spaces for further comments.
    ii) Another employee within the library or resource centre who will be asked (by Principal) to collate 2-3 brief references from persons within the nominee’s school.
    iii) The nominee, who will be invited (by nominator) to submit a 1000 word document about a recent project/s, he/she has undertaken at his/her school. The document should include information and photos to substantiate the project/s.
  7. References may also be submitted from members of relevant professional organisations.
  8. A sub committee of 3 persons will be selected by the AISWA Libraries Inc Committee to decide the recipient.
    8.1. Nominees for the award are ineligible for membership of the sub committee.

    8.2. The sub committee may recommend No Award be presented for the year.

    8.3. The decision of the sub Committee will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  9. The award will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of AISWA Libraries Inc.
