Nominating Candidates for the Jean Rhodes Memorial Award
 
 
 
About the Award - Selection Criteria
 

The Jean Rhodes Memorial Award for Excellence is presented to school librarians who, in the estimation of their peers, have demonstrated that they meet the professional standards of their particular role within the school library or resource centre.

The person selected will have completed one or more of the following:

  • Develop and foster innovative services within the library.
  • Provided students with an environment which is conducive to learning and information literacy.
  • Improved communication and awareness of the library within the school community.
  • Provided leadership support to professional colleagues both within and beyond the school community.
  • Highlighted an image of the best professional service which should be received in all libraries.
  • Provide a leading role in learning within their schools particularly in information literacy.
 
Nomination/Selection Procedures and Guidelines
 
  1. Only employees of independent schools which are financial members of AISWA Libraries Inc. at the time of nomination are eligible.
  2. Nominations may be made by peers, administrators, teachers, nominees or other members of the school/educational community.
  3. Information about the award will be posted on watlnet during Term 2.
  4. Principals of all schools with a current membership of the association (either school or personal) will receive the application brochure.
  5. Interested parties will be invited to complete a nomination form and email to <secretary@aiswalibraries.org.au>
  6. A sub-committee of 3 persons will be selected by the AISWA Libraries Inc. Committee to decide the recipient.
    1. Nominees for the award are ineligible for membership of the sub-committee.
    2. The sub-committee may recommend ‘No Award’ to be presented for the year.
    3. The decision of the sub-committee will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. The award will be presented, if possible, by the AISWA EO, at the Annual General Meeting of AISWA Libraries Inc.
    1. The Principal of the awardee will be invited to attend.
  8. The awardee will receive:
    1. A certificate of recognition for the awardee
    2. Lapel pin will be presented to the awardee
    3. A plaque will be presented to the school for display, identifying the recipient by name, and the reason for the award.
  9. At the discretion of the sub-committee any unsuccessful nominee may be considered for a commendation certificate.
